Challenge

Lightweight design with additional storm-water retention capacity.

Solution

StormCap 3 + 1 using a 1″ (2.5cm) thick Urbanscape Green Roll and a 3″ (7.5cm) thick growing medium with Sempergreen vegetated mats (with an approx. 2.5 cm thick growing medium).
This green roof provides extrem storm-water retention capacity, despite having only a 5 inches (12,5 cm) thick growing medium. The full assembly can hold up to 65 liters of water/m2, but is not heavier than 180 kg/m2 when fully saturated.

The green roof was installed over a Sarnafil 410 adhered PVC membrane with lead detection.

Benefits

This unique design retains a massive amount of rain water which, however, does not compromise the structure stability of the building.
Extra water also provides perfect growing condition which will help plants flourish even during hot and dry periods. Since the roof is clearly visible, a pleasing and aesthetic look was an important criterium for our green roof selection. Next to superior storm-water management this green roof also provides additional sound absorption and reduction benefits for the space beneeth!
